Palmetto sits at the north end of Manatee County, across the Manatee River from Bradenton, and it has its own city utility for water and trash. Florida Power & Light handles electric across all of Manatee, including every Palmetto address. Peoples Gas covers a few older central neighborhoods. Internet is a Spectrum and Frontier story, with fiber rolling out in stages along US-41 and the Sutton Park subdivisions. If you're closing on a home in Sutton Park, Royal Palms, the Snead Island side, or any of the new construction backing up against the Parrish line, this is the call sheet for setting up utilities in Palmetto.

Electric in Palmetto | Florida Power & Light (FPL)

FPL is the only Palmetto electric provider and covers all of Manatee County. New service is set up online or by phone, with same-day or next-business-day activation for most existing addresses. Two houses on the same Palmetto street are always on the same provider, which is one of the few utility decisions that's actually simple in Manatee.

FPL rates in 2026 are competitive with the rest of the state, and the storm hardening work after Hurricane Ian moved a meaningful share of north Manatee distribution lines underground. The Snead Island and Terra Ceia feeders still hang from poles, which is the one part of the area where multi-day outages still happen during a major storm.

Water and Sewer | City of Palmetto or Manatee County

Inside Palmetto city limits, water and sewer are run by the City of Palmetto Utilities Department. Outside city limits, in unincorporated Manatee County, the provider is Manatee County Utilities. The Sutton Park subdivisions split across the boundary, and the Parrish overlap on the east side is mostly on county water.

Manatee County Utilities

If your Palmetto water bill looks unusually high in a new home, the most common cause is a leaky irrigation line on a separate meter. Both the city and the county will send a tech for a leak inspection on request.

Gas in Palmetto | TECO Peoples Gas

Peoples Gas covers parts of Palmetto, mostly the older central neighborhoods inside the historic district. Most newer construction in Sutton Park and the Royal Palms area is electric-only. Verify with the seller disclosure or appliance list before you assume gas service is on the property.

Trash and Recycling | City of Palmetto or Manatee County

Inside city limits, the City of Palmetto handles trash and recycling pickup, billed quarterly on a separate utility statement. Outside city limits, Manatee County contracts pickup through Waste Pro and bills annually on the property tax statement.

Internet Providers in Palmetto

Spectrum has the broadest cable footprint across Palmetto and unincorporated north Manatee. Frontier fiber runs along US-41 and is rolling into Sutton Park in stages. T-Mobile Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home both work well across most of the area.

Spectrum (Cable)

1-855-366-1888 · spectrum.com · Available at most Palmetto addresses; speeds to 1 Gbps.

Frontier Fiber

1-855-552-9691 · frontier.com · Fiber in select neighborhoods; check exact address before signing.

A few Palmetto notes

Palmetto utility companies look simple on the electric side, FPL only, and complicated on the water side. The city limit line decides whether you call the City of Palmetto or Manatee County for water, and the boundary doesn't follow a major road. Pull the parcel record before you call to set up service.

Coastal Palmetto addresses, especially Snead Island, Terra Ceia, and the riverfront west of US-41, sit in FEMA flood zones. Pull the flood zone from the federal FEMA flood map before you write an offer. Flood insurance can swing the monthly carrying cost on a Snead Island home by hundreds of dollars depending on the elevation certificate.

A Vreeland Real Estate agent can pull the FPL outage history, the FEMA flood zone, the Manatee County CDD list, and the school zone for any Palmetto address before you write an offer. That's the kind of due diligence a Vreeland Real Estate agent who actually works the south end of Tampa Bay does.

Common questions about Palmetto utilities

Why is FPL the electric provider in Palmetto instead of TECO?+
FPL covers Manatee, Sarasota, and most of Florida south of the Hillsborough County line. TECO's footprint stops at the Hillsborough County border. Every Palmetto address is on FPL, including Sutton Park, Royal Palms, and the Snead Island side.
Is Sutton Park on City of Palmetto water?+
Some of it. Sutton Park splits across the city limit line, so older sections are on City of Palmetto water and the newer phases on the east side are on Manatee County. Confirm by parcel record before calling.
How long does FPL take to start service in Palmetto?+
Same-day or next-business-day for most addresses. New construction in the Parrish overlap can take longer because of meter installation timing. Call seven to ten business days ahead for new builds.
Do Royal Palms homes have gas service?+
Most don't. Royal Palms was built out as an electric-only subdivision, with optional propane for outdoor kitchens or pool heat. Gas service in Palmetto is concentrated in the older central neighborhoods inside the historic district.
What's the fastest internet I can get in Palmetto?+
Frontier fiber where it's available, with speeds to 5 Gbps. Spectrum cable runs to 1 Gbps in most addresses. Fiber rollout along US-41 is moving faster than rollout in the Parrish overlap, so check at the street level before signing.
How much should I budget for Palmetto utilities?+
On a 2,000 sq ft home, plan on $250 to $400 for FPL electric in summer, $50 to $90 for water and sewer, $30 to $50 for gas if you have it, $70 to $100 for internet. Trash is on the county tax bill or city quarterly statement depending on your address.
