Largo Utilities Setup: Electric, Water, Gas, Internet
Direct phone numbers and the City of Largo vs. Pinellas County water split. Built for closing day, not the week after.
Largo sits in central Pinellas, sandwiched between Clearwater to the north and St. Petersburg to the south. The utility map is straightforward by Florida standards. Duke Energy handles electric across all of Pinellas. The City of Largo runs water and trash for addresses inside city limits, with Pinellas County Utilities serving the unincorporated pockets. Gas comes from Clearwater Gas System, the city-owned utility that extends well beyond Clearwater itself. If you're closing on a home in central Largo, Indian Rocks, Belleair Bluffs, or anywhere along the East Bay Drive corridor, this is the call sheet.
Electric in Largo | Duke Energy Florida
Duke Energy is the only electric provider in Largo and across all of Pinellas County. New service is set up online or by phone, with same-day or next-business-day activation in most cases.
Largo's electric grid is mostly central-Pinellas inland, which means fewer barrier-island feeder issues than Clearwater Beach or Indian Rocks. Storm outages here typically resolve within 24 to 48 hours after a Cat 1 or Cat 2 event. The 2022 storm hardening work moved several Largo distribution circuits underground.
Water and Sewer | City of Largo or Pinellas County
Inside Largo city limits, water and sewer come from the City of Largo. Outside city limits, in unincorporated pockets, the provider is Pinellas County Utilities. The two systems are separate, with different phone numbers and different rates. Largo annexed several pockets in the last decade, so newer additions to the city run on different infrastructure than the older core.
Pinellas County water rates are higher than most of Tampa Bay, partly because the county imports a large share of its drinking water from Tampa Bay Water. City of Largo rates are similar to Pinellas County rates because both pull from the same regional source.
Gas in Largo | Clearwater Gas System
Largo is one of the cities served by Clearwater Gas System, the city-owned utility headquartered in Clearwater. Despite the name, the system covers Belleair, Largo, Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Oldsmar, and parts of Tarpon Springs in addition to Clearwater. Rates are typically lower than Peoples Gas because there's no investor-owned utility margin built in.
Trash and Recycling | City of Largo Solid Waste
The City of Largo Solid Waste Division handles residential trash, recycling, and yard waste pickup for every address inside city limits. Service is automatic with the property and billed monthly on the city utility statement. Unincorporated Pinellas pockets are on the county's Waste Connections contract instead.

A few Largo notes
Largo's annexation history is the trickiest part of utility setup here. The city has grown by absorbing unincorporated Pinellas pockets over the last 30 years, which means two homes on the same block can be on different water companies. The fastest way to find out which one you're on is to ask the seller for the most recent water bill or check the parcel record on the Pinellas County Property Appraiser site.
Indian Rocks Beach and Belleair Beach are in flood zone AE or VE for almost every address. Required flood insurance on a $600k beach home runs $2,500 to $5,000 a year. Central Largo is mostly outside the special flood hazard area, with a few low-lying exceptions near Lake Seminole. Pull the FEMA flood zone before you write an offer.
A Vreeland Real Estate agent can pull the FEMA flood zone, the City of Largo vs. Pinellas County water boundary, and the Duke outage history for any Largo address before you write an offer. That's the kind of due diligence a Vreeland Real Estate agent who actually works central Pinellas does.
